A new group of 25 Ecumenical Accompaniers (EAs) recently arrived to begin three months working with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI). The new arrivals bring the total number of accompaniers to have participated in the programme to 329.
The 19th group of Ecumenical Accompaniers comprises of 15 women and 10 men, from 8 different countries (Germany, Finland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA). The new group includes the first Hindu to have participated in the programme, from South Africa and the second Muslim participant, who is from the UK. One Norwegian EA is continuing for a second term from Group 18, and three Swedish EAs are also returning for a second term.
The group will be based in six placements: Bethlehem, Hebron, Jayyous, Tulkarem, Yanoun and Jerusalem. The programme is pleased to announce that our Jayyous placement has been re-opened.
Ecumenical Accompaniers, who serve a minimum of three months, work in various capacities with local churches, Palestinian and Israeli NGOs, as well as Palestinian communities to try to reduce the brutality of the Occupation and improve the daily lives of both peoples. The WCC would like to welcome the new group to Israel/Palestine.
