About Us
The Association of Protestant Churches and Missions (EMW)
The Association of Protestant Churches and Missions in Germany (EMW) is a fellowship of Protestant churches - whether members of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) or Free Churches -, mission departments and associations supporting missionary, ecumenical and development cooperation between Christians in Germany and churches overseas.
The EMW has close working relations with partners in all continents such as global ecumenical bodies like
- the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC)
- continental, regional and national church councils and Christian conferences
- churches and church organisations
- grass-root organisations and actors in civil society
EMW as a focus of networking with the world-wide Christian Church enriches church life in Germany with the experience and insight of Christians in other countries and promote ecumenical dialogue worldwide.
With its publications, which are mostly in German, and study projects, the EMW fosters ecumenical consciousness in the German churches and general public.
What we do
We support the work of our partners overseas
Money passes through the hands of the administrative staff of the EMW every year. They are not only responsible for making foreign currency transfers and giving advice to members and associate partners, but also administer the EMW's own budget.
Whether a member or associate partner has queries about legal issues, insurance, administration or personnel, the EMW's Administrative Department is the one to the consulted on a wide range of matters. It provides assistance in carrying out special tasks and concrete advice, for instance when a member wants to know whether the wife of a missionary can have the years she has spent on bringing up her children taken into account when it comes to assessing her retirement pension. In addition, it carries out foreign currency transfers for its members and associate partners free of charge.
The Administration Department is also responsible for the EMW's own central administration. This includes data processing, personnel, the administration of real estate and purchasing.
